Nursing Services

There are seven qualified practice nurses who have undertaken a range of further training, including family planning, diabetic and asthma care. The practice nurses work within the surgery carrying out a wide range of clinical nursing duties and health promotion. Where appropriate, patients may make appointments to see the practice nurses directly.

The Practice Nurses provide the following specialist services:

  • Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • COPD
  • Heart Disease and Cardiovascular Disease
  • Hypertension
  • Smoking Cessation
  • NHS Health Checks

Female Health Services including Contraception and Family Planning

The GP's and Practice Nurses advise on, and provide, the standard range of contraceptive services including emergency contraception. We also fit and remove contraceptive devices including intra-uterine contraceptive devices (coils) and contraceptive implants (Nexplanon). We will work with you to provide a service that is flexible around your commitments in order to meet your needs.

Minor injury service

Provided by all Doctors and Practice Nurses.

Minor surgery services

Provided by a GP together with a practice nurse or nursing assistant.

Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant carries out a wide range of tasks including blood tests, blood pressure measurements, performing ECG's and assisting with minor surgery.

We are pleased to be able to provide a phlebotomy service so that if a blood test is needed patients have the option of having this taken at the surgery.  Appointments are available each day.

Childhood Vaccinations

Childhood vaccinations are offered by appointment throughout the week.  The nurses are trained in childhood vaccinations and all vaccinations are given in accordance with the UK vaccinations schedule.

Childhood Development Screening / Assessments

The routine 6 week development check is carried out by your regular doctor.  The 1 and 2 year checks are carried out by a member of the child and family team.

Midwives are specialists in maternity care (the care of pregnant women). They look after you for all pregnancy-related care from your first pregnancy test, during  delivery and in the first few weeks after the birth of the baby.  The patients at our surgery are looked after by a team of midwives who work from Children's Centres and occasionally see patients in the surgery.  They can be contacted at the Cambridge Children's Centre on 01223 586787

Newly pregnant women should book an appointment to see the Midwife as soon as their home pregnancy test is positive.
